=============== Oswego man charged in chain saw assault
A Saturday night family gettogether in Sumter County turned bloody after a woman's father allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a chain saw.
Timothy David Moore, 28, of 1000 Loring Mill Road suffered severe damage to both his hands when he was attacked while he lay reading on a bed at the Lowder Road home of his girlfriend, Martha Parrott.
Martha Parrott's father, James Parrott, 52 of Route 8, Box 294, Oswego, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill about three hours after the 7 p.m. assault.
Lt. Don Bowen of the Sumter County Sheriff's Department said deputies had been called to Martha Parrott's home several times in the past because of domestic problems with various members of the Parrott family.
Bowen said he did not know if those calls included problems between Moore and James Parrott.
Bowen said Saturday night's dispute reportedly erupted because of a disagreement over a fish James Parrott had caught earlier in the day. Bowen said that before the attack, Moore had told Parrott that "they didn't need" the fish in the house.
Bowen said Parrott came into the house while Martha Parrott and her mother, Dora Parrott, sat on the living room couch watching television. Bowen said James Parrott got something to eat from the refrigerator, walked back outside and returned a few moments later carrying a chain saw.
Martha Parrott reported that her father then walked toward the back bedroom, where Moore was lying on a bed, reading a book. Ms. Parrott said she heard the chai saw running and heard her father kick in the bedroom door.
Ms. Parrott reported hearing Moore yell: "What are you doing?"
Ms. Parrott and her mother ran back to the bedroom, where Dora Parrott reportedly stopped the assault by turning off the chain saw.
Bowen said Moore had apparently tried to block the blows from the chain saw with his hands, which were badly damaged. Moore was taken to Tuomey Regional Medical enter and then to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he was listed in good condition today.
Parrott is being held in the Sumter County jail pending a bond hearing.
